DVUSD selects new group of principals

DVUSD – Deer Valley Unified School District announced four new principals for the upcoming school year.

Boris Morew was named the new principal of Deer Valley Middle School. He comes from Madison Meadows Middle School in Phoenix.

Mark Oesterle is the new principal for Diamond Canyon Elementary School. He has held a variety of teaching positions in the district since 2000 and most recently was assistant principal at Gavilan Peak Elementary School.

Cindy Rudrud has been named the interim principal for Sandra Day O’Connor High School. She is replacing Jack Dillard, who resigned in July. Rudrud works for DVUSD as an administrator on assignment.

Amy Jorgensen is the new assistant principal for Anthem Elementary School. She comes from Deer Valley Middle School, where she has worked for the past seven years.

Time to meet the teacher

Sunrise Ridge’s Meet the Teacher Night is set for 4‑6 p.m. Aug. 9. Explore the school campus with your children and find their classrooms, meet your child’s teacher, set up their lunch account, find out their bus schedule and more. The school is at 35707 N. 33rd Lane. For more information, call (623) 445‑7800. 

DVUSD offers two kindergarten options

DVUSD – All elementary schools in the Deer Valley Unified School District will be offering full‑day kindergarten.

Parents have the option of registering their children for half‑day or full‑day kindergarten. All students will receive instruction in literacy and mathematics during the morning. Students attending the full‑day kindergarten will continue  tutoring  these subjects during the afternoon session.

Children must be age 5 on or before Aug. 31 to attend. Registration for classes begins July 30. To find out what school you would like your child to attend, consult the Boundary Map section on the district Web site at dvusd.org.

To register, you will need to bring a copy of the child’s original birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residence and identification.

Boo Hoo Breakfast for local school

The Sunset Ridge PTA is hosting a Boo Hoo Breakfast at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 13 in the Sunset Ridge Library. Snacks and beverages will be served and younger siblings are welcome.

New volunteer training Aug. 17

Sunset Ridge will hold two different training classes for new volunteers. The first seminar is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 17, with the second seminar scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Basic Training is a “must have” for all of those individuals, including parents who donate time and/or services in schools or with students on a regular or reoccurring basis.

Those who attended Basic Training last year do not need to repeat it. Basic Training lasts approximately 80 minutes. Additional training dates and times may be viewed by visiting the Parent Program section of the Deer Valley Web site at dvusd.org.
