OBITUARY

Phil McDonald

Phil McDonald, retired airline pilot, slipped the bonds of this Earth Monday morning, Aug. 6, 2007.

His family includes his wife of 53 years, Pat; his daughters Lori (deceased) and Lisa; and his granddaughters Erin, Kristin, Paige and Taylor. Phil and Pat were residents of Carefree for the past 16 years.

Phil was a familiar sight on Black Mountain, which he hiked almost daily. He was also active in Kiwanis–especially irrepressible at the flea market. Phil redefined “courage” during his encounter with cancer. A month before his diagnosis, he hiked into and out of the Grand Canyon.

Within weeks of his death, he enjoyed jet skiing, kayaking, biplane flights and going to parties. The world traveler maintained his joy of life until his final departure.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary on Bell Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Valley.
