Dogs displace wildlife

My parents own the land just south of the new dog park. They bought this land 40 years ago to get away from city life. We know we can’t stop progress,  but we have concerns: lighting, parking and the big problem is wildlife.

I’m glad you dog lovers are so happy for a place to have them run around, but consider this: already you have displaced several families of rabbits and quail.

We have watched the animals out here for many years. We have a family of deer that has been coming up to drink from our pond for 20 years, along with javelinas, roadrunners, rabbits, etc.

Its hard for us to get excited (about the dog park) when we know the deer and antelope will not be playing here anymore. Gone will be the nights we are eating dinner with nephews and can say, “Quick! Look out at the pond and see the deer.”

Maybe all the dog park members should read the book or watch the movie “Watership Down.” It will make you think about everything we kill and displace when we build. It will make you cry when rabbits are buried alive in holes to make way for progress.
