Needy students get backpacks at DVUSD

DVUSD – Aviation Communication and Surveillance Systems helped support Deer Valley Unified School District’s “Back To School Backpack” program.

Employees from ACSS July 31 assembled 500 backpacks filled with school supplies for DVUSD students in need.

Backpacks were delivered Aug. 3 to 11 schools in the district. Helping in the effort this year were the Deer Valley Education Foundation, which provided funding for an additional 100 backpacks.

DVUSD schools that received the backpacks were Desert Sky, Bellair, Mountain Shadows, Mirage, Sunrise, Park Meadows, Paseo Hills, Esperanza and Desert Winds elementary schools, plus Deer Valley middle and Barry Goldwater high schools.

Administrators named at Cave Creek schools

CCUSD – The Cave Creek Unified School District has announced three new administrators for the 2007‑08 school year.

Dr. Trish Dolasinski has been named the interim principal at the Desert Sun Elementary School. Erik Francis is a new assistant principal at Desert Arroyo Middle School. Nancy Shaver has been named the district’s director of curriculum and instruction.

New volunteer training Aug. 17

NORTH SCOTTSDALE – Sunset Ridge Elementary School will hold two different training classes for new volunteers.

The first seminar is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 17, with the second seminar scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Basic Training is a “must have” for all of those individuals, including parents, who donate time and/or services in schools or with students on a regular or reoccurring basis.

Those who attended Basic Training last year do not need to repeat it. Basic Training lasts approximately 80 minutes.

Board meetings begin regular schedules

NORTH VALLEY – The Cave Creek Unified and Deer Valley Unified school districts began its school‑year governing board meetings this week. 

Both districts typically hold meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.

Deer Valley’s board meetings start at 7 p.m. and are held at the district offices, 20402 N. 15th Ave.
