boards
Scottsdale
residents are invited to apply for positions
opening this fall on several boards
and commissions.
There
will be openings on the Human Services
Commission, Judicial Appointments Advisory
Board, Library Board, Loss Trust Fund
Board, Neighborhood Enhancement Commission,
Parks and Recreation Commission and
the Scottsdale Pride Committee.
Applications
should be submitted by Sept. 14, and
Scottsdale City Council will nominate
from the applicant pool on Oct. 2. Those
nominated will be interviewed on Oct.
23. Appointments are for three‑year
terms. First‑term members may
re‑apply.

Jewish
services set
St.
Rose Catholic Church, 2825 W. Rose Canyon
Circle in Anthem has made its administration
room available to the Valley Jewish
community to observe Reform High Holy
Day services.
The
services will be conducted by a qualified
religious leader active in the Jewish
community.
Officiating
will be Nina Perlmutter, professor emeritus
in religions philosophy at Yavapai College
and a fourth‑year rabbinical
student at The Academy of Jewish Religion
in Los Angeles.
Rosh
Hashanah services will be at Sundown
Sept. 12; Yom Kippur, Nol Kidre at Sundown
Sept. 21; and Yom Kippur, Viskor services
during the day Sept. 22.
Seating
is limited.
Tickets
are $30 for ages 13 and older; $10 ages
6‑12 and no charge for those younger
than 6.

Sjorgren’s
group to meet
The
Phoenix support group for Sjogren’s
Syndrome, the mystery autoimmune disease
with no known cause or cure, will meet
at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Scottsdale
Athletic Club, 8225 E. Indian Bend Road.
Members
and guests are urged to attend and learn
more about the nutritional needs of
those afflicted by this unusual malady.
Dr.
Kristine Werner, PhD, will be guest
speaker. Werner has done research on
the nutritional needs of Sjogren’s Syndrome
patients.
Werner’s
Club 50 Fitness Center is designed for
people 50 and older and specializes
in personal
training for people with various health
issues ranging from knee replacements
to arthritis
and autoimmune diseases.
