“They
(dogs) can run freely in a big space, socialize with other
dogs, and the dog owners can come to meet like‑minded
people and their neighbors,” Jeetah said.
Opening
day was a big success with about 50 dogs in attendance,
she said.
Anthem
Pets has an agreement with the Anthem Community Council
to use the ballfield on certain days and times to run a
dog park, Jeetah said. The group charges a $25 membership
fee to cover the cost of checking the animal’s vaccinations
and operating the park.
The
nonprofit group, which formed in September 2005, is involved
in other projects such as animal welfare, community education,
pet adoption and providing information about low‑cost
spay and neuter clinics, she said.
The
dog park hours are: Monday from 6 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.,
Wednesday from 6 to 9 a.m., Thursday from 6 to 9 a.m., and
on Friday for small dogs only from 6 to 9 a.m. and from
7 to 9 p.m.
