NEW
RIVER – Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating
the shooting death of a 24‑year‑old man that took
place near an area saloon early Tuesday morning.
Deputy
Lindsay Smith said MCSO has detained two unidentified men in
the shooting death of Shane Guedes.
Guedes
died of multiple gunshot wounds on Tuesday at John C. Lincoln
North Mountain Hospital following an altercation with two men,
Smith said. Guedes had argued with the pair earlier in the parking
lot of the Roadrunner Restaurant & Saloon, 47801 N. Black
Canyon Highway in New River, according to the deputy.
Smith
said the three men then got into two separate vehicles and drove
east on New River Road. About one‑half mile from the saloon,
gunfire was exchanged and Guedes was shot. He was transported
by ambulance to the hospital where he later died.
Although
MCSO identified Guedes as being from out‑of‑state,
Roadrunner owner Mark Starr related that Guedes was a regular
customer and he believed Guedes lived in the area.
Starr
said Guedes was the last customer to leave the Roadrunner at
2 a.m. closing, adding that he saw Guedes drive away. “He must
have come back for some reason,” Starr noted. He was not certain
if the two men detained by MCSO were in the establishment earlier
in the evening.
“I’m
hearing that there could have been four to five people involved
and that others might have been in Shane’s car when he was shot,”
said Starr.
Deputy
Smith said she did not know if Guedes fired back at his assailants.
The identities of the two and their places of residence were
not released. As of press time, sheriff’s deputies had not filed
charges and additional details were not available.
