NORTH VALLEY – All seven Hip Hop dance teams representing Deer Valley Unified School District placed first at the 2006 Showstopper West Coast National Dance Championships, according to a news release from the school district.

Donna Crawford, coordinator of the school district’s After School Dance Program, selected some 100 students showing dance aptitude and positive attitudes to form seven teams ranging from first grade to adult level.

The teams competed in the 2006 Showstopper Regional Competition in Phoenix, where their performances qualified them for a spot in the National Competition, hosted by the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., in July. The teams represented the DVUSD Community Education Department’s Hip Hop Workshop.

The dance program is now registering for the fall season, which begins in September, at the following schools: Arrowhead, Copper Creek, Desert Winds, Esperanza, Greenbrier, Highland Lakes, Legend Springs, Mirage, Mountain Shadows and Paseo Hills.

The cost is $25 per month for weekly lessons. For more information, call Crawford at: (623) 566‑9668.
