Input needed at Loop, I‑17 hearing
by Kathleen Stinson

NORTH VALLEY – The state transportation department is holding a public hearing Sept. 6 to discuss proposed construction work on Loop 303 where it will connect to Interstate 17 at the Lone Mountain Road alignment, two miles south of Carefree Highway.

Loop 303 will run west to near Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant roads.

The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. in the Sandra Day O’Connor High School cafeteria, 25250 N. 35th Ave.

Arizona Department of Transportation staff will present an environmental assessment at the hearing, and will take public comments and answer questions concerning the project.

Loop 303 will provide motorists with another route to Sun City and the Northwest Valley region, said ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel.

The proposed construction at I‑17 will complete the northern portion of  Loop 303. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2007 or early 2008.

Nintzel said the environmental assessment will cover everything from the highway’s impact on local waterways and dry washes to any effect it could have on local residents and the community as a whole. Although the area is now largely undeveloped, the assessment takes into consideration the effect on the community as it develops in the future, he said.
