Young
musicians need instruments

SCOTTSDALE – The Pinnacle Peak Rotary
Club is collecting used musical
instruments for students in need.
The
group is collecting musical instruments
in good working condition to loan
to needy youngsters for use in Cave
Creek primary schools’ band and
orchestral programs. School budget
cuts have limited music education
opportunities for those who cannot
afford to rent or buy practice instruments.

Club forming
NEW
RIVER/DESERT HILLS A 4‑H Club
for members with or without horses
is forming in the New River/Desert
Foothills area.
Horse
club members need to own or lease
a horse, either hunter, Western
or halter. Those without an animal
have the opportunity to learn horse
care, conformation and judging skills.
Members
can choose the new club’s name,
projects and meeting locations.
4‑H clubs operate through
the Maricopa County Cooperative
Extension.
Coordinator
Laurie Gengler, with 30 years experience
in horsemanship, has been a 4‑H
leader for four years. She teaches
hunt seat, dressage and western.
She is also looking for a volunteer
co‑leader. Horse experience
is helpful, but not required.

Posse
seeks new members
ANTHEM
– Anyone interested in joining the
Anthem Sheriff’s Posse is invited
to an information meeting Sept.
5, at 7 p.m., at Anthem Community
Center.
The
Posse conducts a brief presentation
and Q&A session every first
Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the center,
41130 N. Freedom Way. Candidates
may complete applications after
the sessions.
Bible
study course begins
ANTHEM
– An informational coffee about
Community Bible Study (CBS) for
women is planned Sept. 5, at 9:15
a.m., at Grace North Church.
CBS,
a Colorado Springs‑based,
international, non‑denominational
Bible study training organization,
is not affiliated with any church,
but is hosted by local churches.
This class series will meet Tuesdays,
starting Sept. 19, at 9:15 a.m.,
at Grace North, west of I‑17.

Creekers
join Cancer Run
CAVE
CREEK – “Creekers for a Cure” urges
women to join the Breast Cancer
Awareness 3‑Day Walk, Nov.
3 to 5.
Volunteers
walk 60 miles during the event,
and raise money for every mile walked.

Cancer
Relay teams organizing
ANTHEM
– Teams to run the American Cancer
Society’s
Relay
for Life are forming at 10 a.m.
on Sept 2. at the Anthem Community
Center, 41130 N. Freedom Way. The
Oct. 13 relay is an overnight community
celebration where individuals and
teams camp out, barbecue, dance
and take turns walking around a
track relay‑style to raise
funds to fight cancer.
The
theme of hope that cancer can be
conquered is ignited with the light
from hundreds of luminarias as the
ceremony begins with a Survivors
Lap at 6 p.m. in Anthem Community
Park.

are needed for all aspects of the
