Wildlife
meeting set for New River
The
New River/Desert Hills Community Association will
conduct an informational session with the Arizona
Game and Fish Department on changes within the agency
affecting wildlife management and law enforcement
issues.
The
meeting will take place from 7:30–9 p.m. Sept. 11
at Crossroads Christian Fellowship located at 42425
N. New River Road. in New River.
Featured
speaker will be Kyle Cooper, district wildlife manager
for Game Management Units 21 and 26 located north
and east of the New River area.
Cooper,
a 19‑year veteran with the department, will
begin with a general overview of the agency, how
it has evolved over recent years and what it takes
to be a wildlife manager in a rapidly changing environment.
Emphasis will be on his dual role as both a biologist
and certified police officer charged with enforcing
the laws covering off‑highway vehicles, watercraft
and wildlife resources.
A
major focus will be on in‑state hunter recruitment
and retention. A large part of this effort will
be geared toward involving more women and youth
in fishing and hunting.

Scottsdale
seeks input on sign code
The
community is invited to an open house to provide
input on a proposed change to the city’s sign code.
The
meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 11
at the Community Design Studio, 7506 E. Indian School
Road.
The
proposed change is to update the sign code to move
regulations for the commercial office zoning district
from the residential to commercial grouping.
Bible
study
The
Community Bible Study of Anthem will be meeting
this fall from 9–11:15 a.m. starting the first week
in September in the Desert Hills Fellowship Church
of the Nazarene on the corner of Carefree Highway
and 7th Street.
The
group will study the books of 1&2 Peter/Daniel/Colossians
in its new home.

subject of Carefree seminar

Teresa Bacal and Loree Bischoff have created Motherhood
Redefined with the goal of focusing on the “Me”
in “MomMeHood.”
Mothers
attending not only have fun and take a much‑needed
break, but they learn why it’s important to take
themselves off the back burner, rediscover missing
parts of their identity, their passions and their
sensuality. Moms will be given a look at how and
why they need to place as much value and focus on
their own health and well being as they do on their
family members.
Attendees
will be entertained as well as have an opportunity
to take part in interactive workshops, seminars
and breakout sessions focusing on topics of interest
to mothers of all ages. Topics addressed include
relationships, motivation, intimacy, health and
wellness, financial insight, parenting, and time
and stress management.
The
company’s annual valley event, Motherhood Redefined,
is set for the weekend of Sept. 21 at Carefree Resort
and Conference Center located at 37220 N. Mule Train

Concert
in Carefree
The
public is invited to the Carefree Amphitheater to
see Igor’s Jazz Cowboys.
The
free concert is scheduled for Sept. 20 and runs
from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Dem
club to meet
The
North Maricopa Democratic Club’s monthly meeting
will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Boulder
Creek High School library, 40410 N. Gavilan Peak
Pkwy. in Anthem.
Legislative
candidate and attorney Jack Doody will talk about
the upcoming campaign. Doody, a former Marine, has
served on the Professional Responsibility Committee
for the state bar association, the North Mountain
Village Planning Committee and local education committees.
A
representative from Attorney General Terry Goddard’s
office will also speak about consumer affairs. Attendees
will have the opportunity to meet potential candidates,
discuss issues and learn how to make a positive
impact in the state and community.

CFCA
announces leadership change
Christian
Family Care Agency has changed leadership for the
first time in its 25‑year history.
Scottsdale’s
Mark Upton, formerly the executive vice president/provost
of Phoenix Seminary, is the agency’s new president.
He assumes a role previously held by CFCA founder
Kay Ekstrom. Ekstrom announced her retirement earlier
this year after leading the private, nonprofit,
social services agency since its founding in 1982.
CFCA
provides foster care, child and family counseling,
pregnancy counseling and adoption programs.
A
licensed minister with Scottsdale Bible Church,
Upton assumes CFCA’s leadership in October after
serving at Phoenix Seminary for more than nine years.
Upton
also brings more than 21 years of experience in
the finance and real estate industries to his new
position and has served on various community boards.
Charity
golf tournament Saturday
The
third annual NJ Geers Foundation Charity Golf Tournament
will take place Saturday at Pointe Tapatio Look
Out Mountain, 11111 N. 7th St. in Phoenix.
Proceeds
from the event will benefit victims of A.L.S. (Lou
Gehrig’s Disease) and their families.
Registration
begins at 6:30 a.m. and the first golfers tee off
at 7:30 a.m. Format is a four‑man, best‑ball
scramble. Prizes will be awarded for first and second
place, men’s and women’s longest drive and closest
to the pin.
There
will also be a “beat the pro” hole competing against
Corey La Russo, the host of “Back Spin the Golf
Show” on 910 AM Sports Radio. There is also an additional
putting contest.
Golfers
may enter individually for $150 per person or $500
per foursome.
Entry
fee includes greens fees, a barbecue lunch at the
Pointe in Tyme restaurant, a custom‑made event
polo shirt, complementary golf balls and more.
A
silent auction following the lunch will feature
signed sports memorabilia from the Arizona Cardinals,
Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks; Ping golf
