Mariposa Monarca exhibit returns to the Desert Botanical Garden

Mariposa Monarca, a monarch butterfly exhibit, returns this fall to the Desert Botanical Garden. This exciting exhibit features hundreds of live monarch butterflies in a beautiful and lush habitat. Guests can view these delicate creatures in the Marshall Butterfly Pavilion daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, September 29 through November 11.

Mariposa Monarca features a 2,400‑square‑foot walk‑through butterfly pavilion where visitors learn about the magical metamorphosis of the monarch life cycle. The exhibit also describes the monumental migration of these amazing creatures and how they know when to depart for the winter, when to stop for food and where the females lay their eggs. Visitors will learn about conservation efforts and how scientists discover certain “migration mysteries” by tagging monarchs to track their migratory patterns. Visitors can participate in a tagging demonstration each Thursday at 1:30 p.m. as part of the Southwest Monarch Study. Due to popular demand the tagging demonstrations require a reservation by email at monarchs@dbg.org or by calling (480) 481‑8128. Experience the beauty of Mariposa Monarca this fall at the Desert Botanical Garden.
