It
was a surprise to read that there is a plan to build a Lowe’s
on the corner of Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway. While
it is private property and not much can be done about the
decision to do this, I would encourage Carefree Town Council
to make sure that the effect of this massive big‑box
retailer is minimized. Remember, this is the neighborhood
that already gets light pollution from Home Depot, a distant
six seconds away from this proposed development.
Now
with Lowe’s on the corner, we can expect even heavier traffic
on an already deadly intersection, more light and noise pollution
for homes on both sides of Cave Creek Road, and the dangerous
joy of dodging the cars that speed down our quiet dirt roads
to avoid the previously mentioned intersection to get to or
leave the store.
I
would ask the decision makers of Carefree and the owners of
Lowe’s to think about this store going up one block from their
houses in their neighborhood when agreeing to the conditions
to build this massive building and parking lot. Please take
the time to minimize to the greatest degree your light and
noise pollution, and maximize the safe flow of traffic.
I
would also ask the people of Cave Creek and Carefree to do
what you can to make your voices heard regarding this development.
