Jaguars grab 3rd at Queen Creek
by Jason Stone

ANTHEM – Just like the Boulder Creek boys volleyball team, new coach Chad Speer has the girls squad on the fast track to success. Speer’s Jaguars took third place at the Queen Creek Invitational last week and improved their overall record to 8‑3 after a successful tournament.

Boulder Creek opened up the round‑robin event on Sept. 8 with two‑game sweeps over Show Low, Willow Canyon, Higley, Agua Fria and Cortez. The Jaguars needed three games to outlast Arizona Lutheran Academy, and then suffered their first loss of the tournament in two games to Valley Christian Sept. 9.

Brittany Bartimoccia was named to the All‑Tournament first‑team.

The tournament wins helped offset a week in which the Jaguars dropped their first two Northwest Region matches. Boulder Creek fell to Deer Valley in five games on Sept. 5, then lost in straight games to Mountain Ridge two nights later.

Boulder Creek is scheduled to play its first match against rival O’Connor on Sept. 14.
