Here is a roundup of local sports news:

CROSS COUNTRY

Cactus Shadows’ boys and girls teams each finished 12th on Sept. 9 at the Chandler Invitational, a meet scored by adding the finishes of the top placer in a senior, junior, sophomore and freshman race. The girls had the winner of the sophomore race as Natalie Omundson finished with a time of 18 minutes, 29 seconds. Three boys runners finished in the top 10 of their class, led by Patrick Cronin (second among seniors at 15:32). Other medalists included Kyle Short (third among sophomores), Austin Miles (eighth among freshmen) and Nick Zalewski (15th among seniors).

Sandra Day O’Connor star runner Lindsay Prescott won the Scottsdale Racing Company’s invitational Sept. 9 with a time of 16:44. O’Connor will next host the O’Connor/Ken Denson Invitational at 8 a.m. on Sept. 16. The meet features the host Eagles, Boulder Creek, Cactus Shadows and other teams and will be run at the future Phoenix Parkat Happy Valley Road and 35th Ave.

 

BOYS GOLF

Boulder Creek’s Jeff Quinn shot a round of 34 on Sept. 7 at Sanctuary Golf Course to lead the Jaguars (9‑1) to a team win over Desert Mountain and Basha. Boulder Creek finished with a team total of 198 to nip host Desert Mountain by 4 strokes.

Sandra Day O’Connor earned its first regular season win of the year on Sept. 7 when the Eagles finished second of four teams at the 500 Club. O’Connor shot a round of 229 to finish 4 strokes behind first‑place Sunnyslope. The Eagles finished far ahead of Washington (271) and Central (289).

Cactus Shadows improved to 5‑0 Sept. 5 with wins over Moon Valley, Prescott and Washington.  The Falcons face Goldwater, North and Washington Sept. 14 before playing in the Dobson Invitational in Mesa.

GIRLS GOLF

Sandra Day O’Connor (5‑1) finished fifth at the Criminal Invitational in Yuma last weekend as Megan Downey and LoraLynn Church each led the Eagles with a final score of 92. Desert Ridge won the tournament with a round of 322.

O’Connor and Boulder Creek will play in the Northwest Early Classic on Sept. 14‑15 at Bellair Golf Course in Glendale.

SWIMMING

Boulder Creek and Sandra Day O’Connor split their first swim meet against each other on Sept. 7 at Anthem Community Center. The Jaguars won the boys competition 120‑60, while O’Connor’s girls were victorious 115‑75. Boulder Creek’s boys improved to 3‑0 with the win.
