This
is easier than I thought
This is seriously cracking me
up. The more I talk about my
ineptitude at prognosticating
local high school, college and
pro football games, the better
I seem to do.
Just look at my record at the
bottom of this column. Like
Shakira's hips, those numbers
don't lie. I'll be the first
to admit I didn't foresee the
type of conciseness that would
drive a local bookie to tears,
but in an effort to not jinx
anything, here is another batch
of uneducated, random guesses
at what teams might win this
weekend. Expect none of this
to actually happen.
Here
are this week's picks:
Cactus Shadows 55, Cortez 7.
Now that rival Pinnacle is out
of the way, the Falcons are
bracing for a 4 0 start. When
was the last time that happened,
you ask? Don't ask the school.
Nobody seems to remember.
O'Connor 14, LaJoya 12. Speaking
of 4 0, O'Connor is headed that
way after posting another strong
defensive performance last week.
The Eagles aren't winning pretty,
but when it's working, does
it really matter?
Flagstaff
31, Boulder Creek 14. Boulder
Creek plays its first ever home
game against coach Scott Heideman's
alma mater. After being held
scoreless last week at Chaparral,
the Jaguars have the misfortune
of running up against another
talented opponent.
ASU
28, Colorado 27. If Division
I AA Montana State is better
than Colorado, then Division
II Chadron State must be overwhelmingly
better than CU after Chadron
upset Montana State last weekend.
Still, sooner or later the Buffaloes
are going to get it together
and that might make it tough
for ASU, but the Devils will
squeak this one out.
Arizona
34, Stephen F. Austin 10. Ouch.
It's a good thing U of A quarterback
Willie Tuitama had a concussion
during last week's LSU game.
I wouldn't want to remember
it either. Stephen F. Austin
will pay for that this week.
NAU
33, Dixie State 3. Ah, that's
the NAU I know and love. Last
week's 38 point loss to Utah
was more like it. The Jacks
normally destroy teams like
Dixie State, this week's opponent,
and after two tough 1 A games,
NAU will be happy to administer
some pain.
Seahawks 26, Cardinals 13. The
Cardinals almost blew it late
in the opener last weekend,
but they won't have such luck
this week. Seattle will never
give the Cards a lead to blow.
Last
week: 7 0
Season: 14 0 (1.000)
