Cowboys kick off concert series in Carefree
by
Jim Crawford
The
Town of Carefree will present Igor’s Jazz Cowboys
for its first installment of the 2007‑08
Concerts in the Garden series. The group will
play at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Town Center Amphitheater,
101 Easy St. in Carefree.
The
popular band has been a top draw at the event
for several years, bandleader Igor Glenn said.
The
Jazz Cowboys employ a unique approach to get
their audience’s attention when opening the
show.
“We
take off our clothes and set fire to our hair,”
Glenn says.
Acoustic
western swing music is the Cowboys’ specialty.
“If
western went by any other name it would probably
be called western Dixieland,” Glenn said. “Swing
was a popular term in the days when Bob Wills
made the music popular. It was invented
during one of the rare times the strings and
horns got along. The difference is Wills and
others went electric.
