Residents should speak up when it comes to traffic control

After reading the article by Kathleen Stinson in The Desert Advocate (“Partial cloverleaf selected for I‑17/Carefree Highway,” Sept. 6, 2006), I too am concerned over the interim traffic controls and proposed partial cloverleaf at the Carefree Highway and I‑17 interchange.

Do we just love the traffic lights? Do we just love the holding lanes? How about waiting for a light to change when there isn’t another car in sight ( i.e. evening and late night hours)? How about waiting in a line of cars for the light to turn green allowing only a few cars to go through while the rest have to wait for another cycle of lights?

This is exactly what it will be like with a partial cloverleaf. With a full cloverleaf there will be no lights, no holding lanes, and no waiting. If this project isn’t done right, we will have the same situation we have now. So why waste $17 million?

Other people who feel the same way should speak up. Don’t forget these are the same people who wanted to build roundabouts.
