Scottsdale
boutique Girly Girlz Tea and Trinkets will
display the work of Cave Creek artist Kati
Walker from 4‑7 p.m. Thursday at 15425
N. Scottsdale Rd. in Scottsdale.
Walker
describes her art as whimsical and colorful,
incorporating children’s interests into the
work.
The
event is Walker’s first‑ever art show
and visitors can meet her and enjoy free refreshments.
Whimsical
paintings for children’s rooms and large scale
florals for grown‑ups will be on display.

Symphony
presents ‘60s tunes
Guest
pops conductor Jack Everly opens The Phoenix Symphony’s
Pop Series with music from the 1960s in a special
Pops weekend of concerts entitled “The Beat Goes
On!” on Oct. 5 and 6. The weekend of Pops concerts
is part of the “APS Pops” concert series and includes
music by The Beatles, Burt Bacharach, Frankie
Valli, The Supremes and many more from the tie‑dyed
decade.
The
Friday and Saturday concerts begin at 8 p.m. at
Symphony Hall, 57 N. 2nd St. in downtown Phoenix.
Tickets
are $25, $35, $45, $54, $64,and $74, and can be

Players tackle ‘The Odd Couple’
The
Cactus Shadows High School Shadowbox Players
present the male and female versions of Neil
Simon’s hit comedy “The Odd Couple.”
The
male cast will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Oct.
3, 5, and 6 and the female cast will perform
at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11,12 and 13 at The Cactus
Shadows Fine Arts Center at 33606 N. 60th St.
in Scottsdale.
The
male version, a 1965 Broadway hit, was made
famous by the popular 1968 movie and 1970’s
television series of the same name.
The
female version which debuted in 1985, updated
the original premise (instead of poker, the
gals are playing Trivial Pursuit) while keeping
the same story line.
Both
versions were written by Neil Simon.
“The
Odd Couple” contains some profanity and references
to adult situations.
Tickets
are $6 at the door.

Symphony
begins classroom concerts
The
Phoenix Symphony’s Education Ensembles began its popular
“Classroom Concerts” in schools across the Valley
on Sept.14.
Symphony
musicians perform and moderate concerts for students,
parents and educators to foster a deeper understanding
of orchestral music and instruments.
In
addition, The Phoenix Symphony Woodwind Ensemble will
present two popular “Classroom Concerts” at 2 and
3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Burton Barr Library
in central Phoenix.
The
events are free and open to the general public and
are appropriate for children ages 4‑12.
Each
year, The Phoenix Symphony String Orchestra, Brass
and Percussion Ensemble and Woodwind Ensemble visit
over 25 schools reaching more than 13,000 students
Valley‑wide.
The
“Classroom Concerts” have educated and cultivated
musical interest in K‑8th grade Valley students
for more than 30 years.
