Pleasant hosts triathlon
VALLEY
– Lake Pleasant Regional Park
is hosting Tri‑Family
Racing’s Third Annual Triathlon
and the accompanying events
on Oct. 8.
Olympic
and sprint triathlon/ duathlon
race events begin at 6:30
a.m., with swimming, biking
and running activities for
both adult and youth competitors.
All events take place at the
four‑lane boat ramp,
at the lake’s north end.
To
ensure the safety of competitors
and spectators, that ramp
will be closed to park visitors
after 5 p.m. on Oct. 7. Once
inside the ramp area after
7 a.m. on Oct. 8, spectators
and participants must remain
there until noon. The four‑lane
boat ramp will reopen to the
public again at 1 p.m.

Foundation golf tourney
raises $165,000

VALLEY – The John C. Lincoln
Foundation Guild’s Sept. 14
Invitational Golf Tournament
was the most successful in
the organization’s 20‑year
history, raising more than
$165,000, according to a news
release from the foundation.
The
money benefits the hospital’s
Desert Mission Food Bank,
Children’s Dental Clinic and
Community Health Center.
Major
sponsors for the event were:
Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ensemble
Real Estate Services, Kitchell
Contractors, The Orcutt/ Winslow
Partnership, and Wells Fargo.
The
foundation is the philanthropic
and fundraising branch of
the John C. Lincoln Health
Network.

CANYON CITY – First Tuesday
Soup Dinners, which benefit
the Black Canyon City Van
Program, begin Oct. 3, from
5 to 6:30 p.m.
A
suggested donation of $5 buys
a complete dinner of three
soups, cornbread, crackers,
dessert, and coffee and tea,
according to Project Director
Ann Plouffe. The opening First
Tuesday soups are broccoli‑and‑cheese,
chicken, and pizza‑chili.
Dinners will be served in
the Meals on Wheels dining
room at St. Philip Benizi
Catholic Church, located on
Old Black Canyon Highway next
to the library.
The
van program need funds to
transport BCC seniors and
disabled residents to doctor
appointments, medical treatments,
pharmacies, and other activities
when possible.

Musicians Showcase
opens
SCOTTSDALE
– Talented young performers
open the Young Musicians Showcase
Concert Series, Sept. 29,
at St. Barnabas Episcopal
Church on Mockingbird Lane.
The church’s Barnabas Society
and Arizona Musicfest announced
their collaboration this season
in presenting the free series
of four Friday evening concerts.
Performances
begin at 7 p.m. and last about
an hour, followed by a Meet
the Musicians reception.
Featured
musicians are Roman Rojas,
a 2006 Musicfest Young Musicians
Competition winner, playing
classical guitar and piano,
as well as a solo violinist
and string quartet.
