Teachers see ‘pink’
DVUSD doing its part to  raise cancer awareness
by Brian DiTullio

DVUSD – Teachers in the Deer Valley Unified School District can expect to see some pink in October to help raise awareness for breast cancer research.

Food Service Coordinator Shannon Quinn said she attended a food show in the Phoenix metropolitan area where cookie maker Otis Spunkmeyer was showing some of the company’s new products. One of those products is a pink cookie made in limited quantities. Proceeds from the sale of the cookies are to go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for research to find a cure.

“We all need to be aware,” said Quinn. “This seemed like a good way.”

The district purchased 40 cases containing 250 cookies each, for a total of 10,000 cookies.

Quinn said the pink cookies, which actually are chocolate mised with pink candy will be distributed every Friday during October to teachers’ lounges and with adult meals around the district.

“We’re not putting them in the kids’ meals,” she said.
