NORTH
VALLEY – When Goldwater originally saw Dobson on its 2007
schedule, the Mustangs didn’t look too imposing as the
one‑time East Valley power had been on the downside
for years.
But
that all changed early this season when the Mustangs upset
then‑second‑ranked 5A‑Division I Chandler
39‑0. Unfortunately for Goldwater, the Bulldogs
found out last Friday that Dobson’s resurgence this season
is in full effect.
Dobson
rolled up 322 rushing yards and held Goldwater to 180
yards of total offense in a 34‑6 rout of the Bulldogs.
Goldwater lost its third straight game after opening the
season with two victories.
Kadeem
Holmon was a thorn in the side of Bulldog defenders on
10 rushes that netted him 127 yards. Goldwater, meanwhile,
had trouble getting its running game going. The Bulldogs
were held to 4 yards per rush (to Dobson’s 6.5) and only
had one run over 10 yards all night–a 17‑yard scamper
from Bobby Tomas.
Goldwater
hopes to snap its losing streak this week when the Bulldogs
travel to Surprise to play Valley Vista in the Northwest
Region opener for the Bulldogs. Valley Vista is a first‑year
varsity team that is playing without seniors. The Monsoon
is 0‑6 and lost its only region game so far.
