CAVE
CREEK – A fourth‑quarter rally fell short for Cactus
Shadows in last week’s game at Shadow Mountain. Two third‑quarter
touchdowns for the Matadors proved to be the difference
in a 21‑18 Falcons loss.
Shadow
Mountain then grabbed a lead it would never give up in
the second quarter when Giancarlo Dale, who rushed for
83 yards on 17 carries, scored a touchdown from 3 yards
out to put the Matadors up 7‑2.
Shadow
Mountain broke the game open with a pair of third‑quarter
touchdowns. First quarterback Darryn Cook‑Kelly
found Mathew Farney for a 15‑yard touchdown. The
extra point failed to put the score at 13‑5.
Later
in the quarter, Dale broke free for a 57‑yard scoring
run, making the score 21‑5.
Cactus
Shadows starting quarterback Dillon Classen, who was making
his return to action after being knocked out with an injury
in the second week against Cactus, got the Falcons back
in the game in the third quarter when he hit Danny Trittler
on a 27‑yard scoring play. The 2‑point conversion
attempt failed, leaving the score at 21‑12.
In
the fourth quarter, Cactus Shadows failed to complete
the rally attempt after Anthony Stephens ran in for a
touchdown from 14 yards out to put the Falcons within
a field goal.
