NORTH
VALLEY – Homecoming was certainly happy for Pinnacle football
fans.
The
Pioneers moved to 5‑0 and kept hold of the No. 1
spot in the 5A‑Division II power points poll with
a 28‑10 rout of Kofa last Friday night.
Dillon
Luther carried the ball 11 times for 83 yards and quarterback
Evan Johnson had one of his most consistent nights of
the year, completing 15‑of‑20 passes for 204
yards. Johnson’s prime target of the night was Jonathan
Crist, who collected five receptions for 83 yards.
Pinnacle
grabbed a 7‑0 first‑quarter lead, then extended
it to 21‑3 at halftime.
The
teams traded scores in the fourth quarter but it didn’t
matter as the Pioneers basically put the game away in
the first half.
The
Pioneers, who already improved on last year’s win total
by one with five games remaining, are now set up for one
of the top games in 5A. Pinnacle will face second‑ranked
Marcos de Niza (5‑0) in a game with major playoff
point implications.
The
game is also big because it’s the first Pima Region game
for both teams.
