Cave Creek man killed

Staff reports

CAVE CREEK – Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident early last week that claimed the life of a 53‑year‑old Cave Creek man.

Authorities believe “fatigue or a medical condition” may have caused August Schrom to lose control of his 1992 Ford pickup truck and crash into a semi‑tractor trailer along Cave Creek Road, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Joel Tranter.

Witnesses reported Schrom was “weaving back and forth” in and out of his lane along Cave Creek Road between Pinnacle Peak and Jomax Road when he struck the semi‑tractor trailer, Tranter said.

Schrom was ejected when his truck rolled over and died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, according to Sgt. Tranter.

The accident took place at 10:47 a.m. Sept. 26 and forced authorities to shut down the roadway for some time.

Investigators do not think alcohol or drugs were a factor, nor do they think speed contributed to the crash, Tranter said.
