PHOENIX
– The Solid Rock Foundation is calling all talented area
soloists and bands to perform at the fourth annual Proof
Is In the Pudding musical talent contest for the opportunity
to perform on stage with Jordin Sparks and other celebrities
at the annual Christmas Pudding concert.
Born
out of a desire to showcase local artists, the Proof Is
in the Pudding contest is a local version of American
Idol, designed to highlight up and coming talent.
Musical
styles of all types are encouraged to participate and
there is no cost.
Entrants
can pick one of two categories: bands or soloists.
Each
act must perform one original tune and one holiday tune,
and will have 15 minutes to set up, play and breakdown.
After
a series of semi‑finals, the winner of each category
will have the opportunity to perform at the upcoming December
Christmas Pudding concert at the Dodge Theatre.
During
the first event in 2004, 14‑year‑old Jordin
Sparks wowed the judges and won the soloist category.
Band
and solo submissions can be turned in to Alice Cooperstown
Restaurant at 101 E. Jackson Street in Phoenix.
Submissions
must include a completed registration form along with
a demo CD and a photo of the band or artist.
Deadline
for submissions is Oct. 18. The top 24 soloists and top
24 bands will perform at Alice Cooperstown starting at
6 p.m. Nov. 5‑8.
A
panel of entertainment and industry professionals will
judge each performance based on professionalism, originality,
performance, band presentation, music and show continuity,
Image,
skill and audience response.
