Zuva planning Africa trip

Zuva Gallery is hosting a trip‑of‑a‑lifetime to Africa in February 2008. The 17‑day journey on the African continent has an itinerary that covers both east and southern Africa. The trip  combines the best Africa has to offer including prime game viewing, art excursions, sight‑seeing, wine tasting and other personal interaction with Africa and its people. The customized trip is limited to 18 guests. There are currently four spots available.

On Thursday Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., Zuva Gallery is opening an exhibition of 40 photographs from northern Uganda titled “The Human Tragedy of Northern Uganda.” The photographs are on loan from the U.S. State Department and were commissioned by the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, Uganda. The exhibit will be on display in the Zuva Gallery Special Exhibition Space at el Pedregal Shops at The Boulders Resort (Upper Level, Suite L2/L4). The exhibit continues through October 31. El Pedregal Shops at The Boulders is located at the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Carefree Highway.

Prodigy to perform in Scottsdale

Violinist Mia Laity will perform at 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Pinnacle Presbyterian Church Chapel.Laity began studying violin at age 3. In 2006 and 2007, she won first place in Arizona Musicfest’s Young Musicians Competition and the Phoenix Symphony Guild’s Concerto Competition.

As grand prize winner last year, Laity performed with the Phoenix Symphony and currently plays with the Phoenix Youth Symphony with plans to become a professional violinist.

The Oct. 14 recital will also serve as Laity’s audition for the PBS program “From the Top: Live from Carnegie Hall.” Admission is free.
