tennis players on national team
NORTH
VALLEY – Five North Valley adult tennis players were part
of a USTA League team that played for the Adult National
Championship last weekend in Tucson.
John
Ryan, Christopher Reichow and Richard Berton of Anthem,
Cave Creek’s Wesley Davis, and Kevin Gonzalez of Carefree
were part of the 12‑member team from the Phoenix
area that played in the national tournament at the Doubletree
Hotel Tucson at Park Reid.
The
Phoenix team went 1‑2 in pool play, winning five
of 15 matches. It did not advance to the semifinals.
Hall
of Famers to appear at Jenkins golf benefit
ANTHEM
– The Fergie Jenkins Charity Classic golf tournament
is set for Oct. 15‑16 at the Anthem Country Club.
Jenkins, a former Major League All‑Star pitcher,
is one of many former pro athletes players who are expected
to attend the event, which will benefit a number of charities.
Reggie
Jackson, Meadowlark Lemon and Bob Gibson are among the
former athletes who will be available to meet and greet.
The event costs $24 and is limited to the first 250.

Final
day set for DFAC signups
NORTH
VALLEY – The final day of registration for the Winter
2007 season at the Desert Foothills Athletic Club is set
for 7‑8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Black Mountain Elementary
School. Leagues will be et up for boys and girls currently
in grades 1‑8. Practices are expected to begin in
December with games starting the week of Jan. 6. For information,

Spur
Cross hikes planned
CAVE
CREEK – The Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area has a series
of hikes planned for the remainder of October. A moderate‑level,
ranger‑guided Bird Identification Walk is slated
for 8 a.m. Oct. 11, while a 2.5‑mile moderate walk
is slated for 8 a.m. Oct. 13. Other highlights for the
month include a Sunrise Hike (6 a.m. on Oct. 14), a Rocks
and Streams Walk (9 a.m. Oct. 19) and a Nature Walk (8
a.m. Oct. 21).
Hikes
are $3 per person for those without a Spur Cross pass.

Boulders
adds golf program for women
NORTH
SCOTTSDALE – The Boulders Resort has introduced a new
golf program designed specifically for women. The new
Ladies First program is limited to four women per session
and combines three days of instruction and social activities.
The
Ladies First program begins each Friday evening on the
driving range and includes short‑game instruction.
