Anita
Carr, 65, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2007 at her
home in Cave Creek, Ariz., after a long and courageous struggle
against cancer.
Anita
was born in Chicago, Ill. on June 26, 1942, and was the only
daughter of William and Helen Bartlett, who preceded her in
death.
Anita
is survived by her husband Dan; her children Jay, Jeff and
Ann; stepchildren Cathy, Ronald and Richard; and grandchildren
Emily Grace, April, Heather, Marion, Jake, Josh, Sara, Jena,
Alexis and Caden.
Anita
moved to Cave Creek, Ariz. in 1988 with her husband Dan. She
enjoyed a long career as a letter carrier for the United States
Postal Service. Anita’s lifelong passion was her dogs, horses,
wolves and all wildlife.
Anita
leaves behind a legacy. She remained committed to wildlife
and preservation of the Sonoran desert where she lived and
which she loved. In the last months of her life, Anita, along
with her husband Dan, negotiated a settlement for an environmental
lawsuit–a battle which Anita waged for seven years–to preserve
the habitat of the local Sonoran desert.
The
negotiated settlement was that the developer agreed to donate
$50,000 to each of two local wildlife organizations: Wild
At Heart, a raptor rehabilitation sanctuary and educational
foundation for birds of prey; and Southwest Wildlife Rehabilitation,
a sanctuary and educational foundation for mammals.
Funeral
services and internment were held in Illinois. A memorial
service will be held October 21, 2007 at Sonrise Community
Church of Scottsdale, 29505 N. Scottsdale Road (southeast
of Dixileta) at 2 p.m.
In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley,
1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
