NORTH
VALLEY – Of the 60 plays Goldwater’s offense ran in last week’s
game in Kingman, only eight of them were passes. Then again,
when running the ball is working so well, why pass?
Goldwater
picked up its second straight victory 37‑7 as the Bulldogs
rushed for 357 yards and five touchdowns.
Using
the same formula in the previous week’s 44‑0 shutout
of Valley Vista, Goldwater improved to 4‑3 in easy fashion.
Both
C.J. Morgan and Bobby Tomas topped the 100‑yard barrier
with Morgan turning in his best game of the season.
Morgan
carried the ball 17 times for 175 yards, including a 56‑yarder
on one burst.
Tomas
racked up 151 rushing yards on 22 carries, making it an easy
passing night for quarterback Robbie Kim, who completed 6‑of‑8
passes for 70 yards.
Goldwater
was so dominating in the game that the Bulldogs only punted
once and were never seriously threatened by Kingman, which
fell to 1‑6.
The
victory was big for two reasons: Goldwater stayed unbeaten
in the Northwest Region (2‑0) and moved into a first‑place
tie with Deer Valley, and the Bulldogs also gained ground
in the 5A‑Division II power points that determine playoff
teams.
Goldwater
entered the week 12th in the standings, which is good news
considering the top 16 teams get into the postseason.
The
Bulldogs are sitting right behind rival Deer Valley and Surprise
Willow Canyon, which are tied for 10th.
The
Bulldogs still have a chance to control their own destiny
as they face Deer Valley this week and will play Willow Canyon
in the season finale Nov. 2.
Deer
Valley (4‑3 overall) is coming off a 37‑7 victory
over Willow Canyon, yet still remained tied with the Surprise
school in power points.
Pinnacle
returned to the No. 1 spot in the state.
