Falcons come up short
by Jason Stone

CAVE CREEK – The long trip to Prescott wasn’t a happy one for the Cactus Shadows football team, which suffered its fourth consecutive defeat 17‑13.

Prescott scored 10 fourth‑quarter points to spoil Cactus Shadows’ attempt at stealing a win on the road in a non‑region game. The Falcons scored on an 85‑yard kickoff return by Danny Trittler but it wasn’t enough to pull out the victory.

Cactus Shadows was outgained in total yardage 322‑194 and was only able to muster 39 yards through the air. Jake Jarvis did the most damage for Prescott, gaining 147 rushing yards on 20 carries, including a long burst of 38 yards.

The loss dropped the Falcons to 20th in the 4A‑Division I playoff power points. The Falcons will likely need wins in at least two of their final three games to qualify for the postseason by finishing in the top 16.

Homecoming is up this week as McClintock pays a visit. The Falcons also have remaining games at Apache Junction and home against Chaparral in the finale. A win over McClintock would be key as the Chargers are ranked 14th in the current poll.

Boulder Creek back against Kingman

ANTHEM – After a bye week, Boulder Creek returns to action at Kingman this week. The Jaguars will likely need at least two wins in its final three games to have a chance at making the postseason.

Boulder Creek (3‑4 overall, 2‑0 Northwest Region) stands at 19th in the current rankings, which are three out of the final playoff spot. After playing Kingman, Boulder Creek will play host to Goldwater and Deer Valley, two teams ahead of it in the rankings, to end the season.
