Normann’s
license revoked
SCOTTSDALE
– The Arizona Medical Board on Oct. 9 accepted the disciplinary
action recommended by an administrative law judge and revoked
the medical license of Anthem doctor Peter J. Normann.
The
board’s action follows the deaths of three patients while
under Normann’s care, a news release states.
The
first patient died in December 2006, but the medical board
did not learn of that case until a second patient suffered
cardiac arrest and died in April.
Two
days later, Normann signed a consent agreement in which he
said he would not perform liposuction procedures in his office
or any procedure requiring conscious sedation until further
order of the board.
In
June, a liposuction procedure was performed by an unlicensed
practitioner in Normann’s office. Normann did not participate
in that procedure, but the patient later died while in his
care.
Gary
Page, who performed the procedure, was not licensed by the
Arizona Medical Board but did hold an Arizona homeopathic
license.
The
next day, the board summarily suspended Normann’s license,
sending the case to an expedited formal hearing at the Office
of Administrative Hearings. Neither Normann nor his attorney
participated in that formal hearing in August.
Last
month, the administrative law judge who heard the case issued
his recommended order for revocation.
The
Arizona Medical Board licenses and regulates 19,200 medical
doctors in Arizona. Board headquarters are located at 9545
E. Doubletree Ranch Road in Scottsdale.
