Meet the maestro
Robert Moody returns to Valley as artistic director of Musicfest

SCOTTSDALE – Imagine a perfect Arizona evening: To the west, the sun setting in a blaze of orange‑gold. To the east, the stars appearing one by one as pinpoints in the sky. In the middle of the splendor, you’re sitting in the magnificent Chiricahua Clubhouse at Desert Mountain, enjoying exceptional wine and delectable food. And ¼ of course, there’s the music!

That’s where maestro Robert Moody comes it. He’s back in town and this time he’ll be singing.

Moody, a former resident conductor of The Phoenix Symphony, creator of the all‑volunteer Phoenix Symphony Chorus, and current music director of The Winston‑Salem Symphony, returns to the Valley to take the podium as the new artistic director of Arizona  Musicfest and conduct the Festival Orchestra in 2007.

During his time with The Phoenix Symphony, Moody moved and shook more than his baton. He was responsible for the symphony’s “Family Concert” series which allowed children to meet the musicians, chat with the conductor, solve musical puzzles, and learn about musical instruments.

At the Chiricahua Clubhouse, though, he’ll be singing. He’s the mover and shaker behind “A Little Night Music with Bob Moody and Friends” on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. as Arizona Musicfest celebrates the opening of its 2006‑2007 season.

Aside from all the live music, fine wine, cash bar, and tasty continental hors d’oeuvres provided by Desert Mountain, guests will be able to talk with Moody, most likely to welcome him back to the Valley and congratulate him on his new position with Musicfest.

Funds raised will support Arizona Musicfest concerts and youth programs, including the Young Artists Concert series, Young Musicians Showcase series, and provision of musical instruments for Cave Creek Unified School District.

The gated entrance to Desert Mountain is at 37700 N. Desert Mountain Parkway, Scottsdale. The Chiricahua Clubhouse is located at 42429 N. Saguaro Forest Drive in Scottsdale. Tickets are $80, available at (480) 488‑0806 or www.azmusicfest.org. Reservations must be made and paid in advance for this event.
