NORTH VALLEY – With the Arizona Interscholastic Association realigning its regions for next year, Trevor Browne might want to think about petitioning out of Goldwater’s region. After the performance Goldwater’s Miles Kizer put on last week, Trevor Browne probably never wants to see the Bulldogs again.

Kizer rushed for two touchdowns, returned a fumble for another, blocked a punt that led to a score, and made 10 tackles in an all‑around effort Oct. 13 to lead Goldwater to a 62‑18 blowout win over the Trevor Browne Bruins.

Goldwater (3‑4 overall, 2‑1 Northwest Region) scored three first‑quarter touchdowns and put up 20 more points in the second quarter to grab a commanding 41‑6 lead at halftime.

Kizer’s 9‑yard touchdown run started the scoring, before his blocked punt was recovered by Garrett Lee for another score to put Goldwater up 14‑0. Kizer than broke off a 65‑yard scamper for a 21‑0 lead. That grew to 28‑0 when Kizer returned a fumble 40 yards for a score.

Trevor Browne (1‑6, 0‑3) got on the board with a touchdown in the second quarter, but Goldwater responded with Bob Tomas’ 20‑yard touchdown run. C.J. Morgan scored two third‑quarter touchdowns for the Bulldogs to give them a 55‑6 lead.

Goldwater finished the game with three runners over the 100‑yard mark. In addition to Kizer’s performance, Tomas finished with a team‑high 139 yards and Morgan racked up 123 yards on the ground. The Bulldogs rushed for 447 yards as a team and only attempted two passes–both which fell incomplete.

The victory helped the Bulldogs’ playoff chances as it moved them to No. 13 in the latest 5A‑Division II power point rankings. The top 16 teams at season’s end qualify for the state tournament.

Goldwater next plays its final home game of the season Oct. 20 when O’Connor (4‑4, 1‑3) visits for a region game. The Bulldogs will then finish the season with crucial road contests at Mountain Ridge (3‑4, 3‑0) and Deer Valley (3‑4, 2‑2).
