CAREFREE
– The Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival, which
takes place in downtown Carefree Nov. 3‑5,
features more than 165 juried artists from the
Desert Foothills, around the country, and abroad.
In excess of 5,000 original artworks, including
bronzes, paintings, pottery, photography, batiks,
jewelry, scratchboard, and sculptures of wood,
clay, metal, glass and mixed‑media are expected
to be displayed.
But
“fine” refers to more than just the art at this
festival, it describes the wine as well. The event
is one of Arizona’s largest wine‑tasting
events, providing the opportunity to sample a
wide variety of domestic and imported wines ...
for only $10. For that nominal fee, each taster
will receive an engraved souvenir wine glass and
six tasting tickets for first‑class wines
from Arizona, Austria, Australia and elsewhere.
Special microbrews will be available as well.
And
what’s art and wine without some music? Paul LaRoche,
better known as Brulé, and his band AIRO (American
Indian Rock Opera) are the featured musicians
for the festival. They will be performing contemporary
Native American music which mixes flute, piano,
traditional drums and guitars.
Also
performing at the festival will be Hawaiian‑influenced
classical guitarist Patrick Ki, Native American
cedar flute player Wind Rodriguez, and Flamenco
guitarist Michael Mac Zanabili.
The
featured artists at the festival are Jeremy and
Gabriela Firehammer who create one‑of‑a‑kind
stone sculptures using an inlay technique that
involves a combination of stones with diverse
colors, distinct striations and different densities.
The
couple collaborates at every step of the process
to both integrate both masculine and feminine
energies in each work of art. Their work is popular
as wall sculptures or as inlays in walls or floors.
Admission
is free on Friday and $2 on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival takes place in downtown Carefree
(HoHum and Easy Streets) from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.
each day. For information, call (480) 837‑5637
