CAVE
CREEK – Northeast Valley residents will soon be a step closer
to getting a new $9.6 million YMCA and Community Center, to be
built near Cave Creek Unified School District’s Fine Arts Center.
On
Nov. 13, former Valley radio personality Preston Westmoreland
will emcee the “Building Community Connections” social event from
6 to 8 p.m. to kick off construction of the multi-million dollar
project.
The
long-planned campus will feature a family YMCA, a community center,
and educational facilities for Paradise Valley Community College.
The YMCA includes a fitness center, aquatics facilities, a teen
center, multi-purpose and childcare rooms, racquetball courts
and a rock climbing wall.
“This
is a true community collaboration and we are happy to be part
of it,” CCUSD Superintendent Tacy Ashby said. “The facilities,
including the pool and teen center will be very beneficial for
our students, staff, families, and the community at large.”
The
addition of six classrooms for PVCC will help serve the 130-plus
Cactus Shadows High School students currently enrolled in classes
at the college.
The
“Building Community Connections” event will be held at CCUSD’s
Fine Arts Center, 33606 N. 60th St. Festivities include entertainment,
food, activities, and information about the campus. Groundbreaking
for the campus is expected in mid-2007.
“The
Y’s community center fits perfectly into our current and future
strategic thinking,” said Louis Rosenburgh, president of the Foothills
Community Foundation. “We are anxious for the completion of the
facility, which will benefit the entire Foothills community.”
