“Issue of power lines near school continues
by Kathleen Stinson

NORTHEAST VALLEY - Concerned residents living near Sonoran Trails Middle School continue efforts to raise awareness of electromagnetic field levels at the school.

The Cave Creek Unified School District board voted recently not to move high-voltage power lines near the school, located at 33606 N. 60th Street in the Cave Creek schools complex.

A group of parents and nearby residents are concerned that EMF levels emanating from the power lines could negatively affect the health of students. They have organized and circulated a petition to ask the board to reconsider its decision.

After a group of parents brought the issue to the attention of the board several months ago, the district conducted an investigation to measure EMF levels at the school.

At the last CCUSD board meeting, group spokesman Dave Toomey turned in the petition for reconsideration with more than 240 signatures of area residents.
