No Cards to rely on this week

Man, what am I going to do without an Arizona Cardinals game to pick this week? I mean, that is the one guaranteed win for me each week. At least Cards fans don’t have to sit through another game like last week’s loss at Green Bay.

It’s a good thing I still have Cactus Shadows to rely on. The Falcons are good for a sure victory each week. Plus, U of A is back in action this week and we all know the Cats have packed it in for the year.

Here are this week’s picks:

Cactus Shadows 30, Sunnyslope 22. It all comes down to this for the Wells Fargo 2 Region championship. If the Falcons want to win it outright and earn the No. 1 seed for the 4A‑Division II state tournament, they need to beat Sunnyslope. They will.

Willow Canyon 38, Boulder Creek 25. This might seem like a meaningless final game for two new programs, but this could be a preview of a big game next year when the two teams will each be part of the Northwest Region.

Goldwater 28, Deer Valley 24. A late‑season surge has Goldwater thinking about a share of the Northwest Region title. After beating Mountain Ridge last week, however, the Bulldogs had better be on guard for a letdown.

O’Connor 20, San Luis 7. Facing a winless team should help O’Connor earn a winning season for the third straight year.

ASU 34, Oregon State 27. Speaking of letdowns, who won’t be surprised if Oregon State suffers one after last week’s big win over USC? That’s good news for ASU, which is coming off an emotional win itself. The Sun Devils are a tad better, so the nod goes to them.

Washington State 31, Arizona 14. Two surprising teams: Washington State because of its success and Arizona because of its ineptitude. It’s time for the Wildcats to call it a year. Oh, wait, they did that three weeks ago.

NAU 35, Portland State 28. A big win over Eastern Washington last week keeps the momentum going for the Lumberjacks, who need to win its final three games to have a shot at making the Division I‑AA playoffs. It’s a long shot, but a win over talented Portland State would still be nice either way.

Last week: 5‑2

Season: 51‑10 (.836)
