International music to fill the North Valley air
It’s officially holiday time, and a great time of year to enjoy music with friends and family.

ProMusica Arizona has come up with a perfect way for people of all nationalities and ethnic backgrounds to join hands and celebrate the holiday season by presenting “The International Holiday” program of music.

“Music brings people together,” says Connie Henry, president of ProMusica. “Everybody is trying to thinking about peace. One of the things we would like to encourage people to do is come out and see how other people celebrate the season through music. It’s a way for people to come together over music.

“It’s wonderful to be presenting a concert of music from around the world. Especially at this time of the year. We’ll have Christian, Jewish and tribal music. We’re going to be singing in four or five different languages.”

And with a chorale made up of 60 members and an orchestra counting 45 members, this is no small production. It takes some doing.

“I’m so proud of how far this organization has come in just three short years,” Henry says. “This is an all volunteer chorale and orchestra. If you were to add all of the volunteer hours everybody puts in it would total more than 16,000 per year.”

Pat Marrs, ProMusica vice president, says the experience of assembling the program was as educational for the orchestra and chorale as it should be for the public.

“We’re exposing ourselves to the different ways people in other countries choose to celebrate the holiday season,” Marrs says. “It is a thrill to be part of this organization whose entire purpose is to sing and play music and bring music to the North Valley. Our evolution is amazing.”

ProMusica Arizona was the brainchild of Henry and Kevin Kozacek, who remains artistic director for the organization in addition to his full‑time duties as a Southwest Airlines pilot.

Marrs finds “it so amazing for someone to start and maintain a chorale and orchestra,”  and attributes its success to the components of the organization: “This is just a fantastic group of people to work with.”

Henry is asking attendees from other countries or of different ethnicities to don clothing or costumes from their homelands.

“They could mingle in the lobby before the concert and during intermission and talk to those attending and answer questions.”

Henry says ProMusica Arizona could never have the quality productions it has without the generous help of sponsors such as The Desert Advocate, M&I Bank, USAA, and concert sponsor  Andrew Z Diamonds and Fine Jewelry in Anthem.

The “International Holiday” performances will be presented Dec. 8‑9 at 7:30 p.m. in the            Boulder Creek High School Auditorium, 40404 N. Gavilan Peak Parkway in Anthem. For  ticket or ProMusica information, call (623) 465‑4650 or visit www.ProMusicaAz.org.
