CAVE
CREEK – Outdoor enthusiasts in Cave Creek will have another
place to hike, bike, walk or ride their horses thanks to an
area couple’s generosity.
Town
council on Monday night voted unanimously to accept an offer
of land for a trail head from residents Louie and Missy Majors.
The
Cave Creek couple dedicated a portion of their property for
Rancho Espuela Trail Head (40022 N. Spur Cross Road) to the
town.Council members and some of those attending the meeting
praised the Majors for their contribution.
“I
don’t think it can be overstated what a wonderful gift this
is to the community,” said Council woman Grace Meeth.
Councilman
Thomas McGuire also praised the move, saying, “It’s a billboard
to the world to look at Cave Creek and say this is a horse
community.”
The
town’s Trails Advisory Committee in early April presented
to council the results of two public workshops aimed at refining
plans to improve and expand Cave Creek’s trails. The workshops
were held in December 2005 and February of this year.
The
community’s primary trail runs along Spur Cross Road, but
the advisory group is exploring the possibility of expanding
it to include east‑west connections and possibly connect
the trail to an area near town hall, located in the 37000
block of North Cave Creek Road.
In
other action, town council unanimously voted to reappoint
Planning Commissioners Ted Bryda and Bill Allen to three‑year
terms, starting on Jan. 1 and expiring Dec. 31, 2009.
In
addition, also by unanimous vote, council approved the first
reading of proposed 2007 amendments to the town’s tax code.
Under
Arizona law, all municipalities must update or change their
tax codes annually to be in compliance with state tax codes.
Approved
changes would go into effect in January. Council will hold
two more readings before
voting on the pro‑posed amendments.
