Creekers, be winners!

Cave Creek residents, once again you are given the opportunity to be an active member of our democracy. Serve your local citizenry, stand up, be counted and run for town council. Now is the time to take out signature packets being distributed at Town Hall in Cave Creek.

The greatest gift our country and state constitution gives you as a birthright and citizen is to participate in an election as a candidate. Take a chance. Run for office. Be a candidate. Cave Creek needs you if you are for growth only within existing zoning regulations which would protect standing property rights and your small rural town. Cave Creek needs you if you agree with the following:

–The town must get back to the ideas, ethics and lifestyles that have contributed to the high quality of life we enjoy.

–Everything you do must be within the carrying capacity of the land and resources, and not emulate those places that only want growth for the sake of growth–growth needing more tax revenue, more traffic and more people.

–Conserve the existing area’s rich, varied, self‑sustaining natural environment.

–Encourage tourism and commercial development within the existing zoning with the town’s objective always being to enhance the town’s sales tax revenue without negatively impacting the rural, eclectic, quiet and rustic neighborhoods.

–Surround yourself by staff who have the same goals.

Some of us do better being community activists, like myself, but running for office is truly not for the timid; it is a vulnerable vocation. Eventually there is a vote and you may lose. But you will be a winner in having the wonderful opportunity to meet and listen to your fellow citizens in their homes and at public forums. Your message will get out to those citizens; some of your goals may be carried forward. That’s being a winner.

Cave Creek is at a crossroads. Many decisions being made today by some of your elected and appointed officials and staff have been detrimental and do not provide a direction to ensure the future quality of life you desire.

You have a choice. Do something about the situation or sit back and do nothing. Don’t complain when decisions being made change your town forever. One way you will be a winner, no matter the outcome, is to run for a council position.
