B‑17 visit postponed

VALLEY – An aviation group that planned to bring a vintage World War II aircraft to the Phoenix Deer Valley Airport said the visit has been rescheduled for Nov. 25.

The Experimental Aircraft Association, citing unspecified mechanical problems, announced on their Web site that once repaired, they will bring “Aluminum Overcast,” a B‑17 bomber, to the airport for ground tours and flights. The event was  slated for Nov. 18‑19.

Book fair to benefit education

DESERT FOOTHILLS – Barnes & Noble is holding a book fair at its Desert Ridge store location that will run through Nov. 25.

A percentage of the sales from the book fair will be dedicated to the Foothills Community Foundation to benefit the Desert Foothills Community Education Programs, said Vickilyn Hussey, spokeswoman for the book fair.

Holiday cookie demonstration to be held pm Dec. 2.

NORTH PHOENIX – The Desert Broom branch of the Phoenix Public Library will host a demonstration on decorating cookies for the holidays from 1‑2 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Library to hold Children’s story time sessions

ANTHEM – Make a small craft and have a tiny treat at the Maricopa County Library District’s North Valley Regional Library will hold story time session for children on Dec. 8.

Kids 2‑3 years old are invited to the library for stories and songs all about gingerbread at 9:30 a.m. The story time session for children ages 4‑5 years old will be held at 10:30 a.m. Space is limited. Registration is needed and begins on Dec.1. The library is located at 40410 N. Gavilan Peak Parkway in Anthem. For information or to register, call (602) 652‑3000.

Elks Lodge proposed in this area

VALLEY – The Arizona Elks Association is working to form a new Elks Lodge in the Valley. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks have 138 years of community service, with 2,200 lodges, and over 1 million members in the United States. The Elks aim to further that tradition with the formation of new lodges in communities across Arizona.

American citizens, men and women, over the age of 21 may apply to become members. For more information, call (800) 947‑5633.

Volunteer group to accepting grant applications

VALLEY—The Arizona Women’s Partnership, which benefits organizations that assist under‑served women and children at risk, is accepting applications for its 2007 grants.

Since its formation in 2003, the organization has awarded $70,000 in grants to local charities. The grant awards range from $500 to $2,000.

Applicants must be: a registered non‑profit group, have a total operating budget of under $200,000, be non‑sectarian, and in good financial standing.

The grant application is due by Jan. 31 For more information, visit: www.azwp.org

Applications will be reviewed in February and notifications will be mailed in March. The grant checks are mailed in June.

The total grant money available is raised through the annual Wine, Women & Jazz FUNdraiser which will be held on May 18 at the Arizona Culinary Institute. Sponsorship are available. For more information about this event, contact: azwpinc@aol.com
