Film Society announces next film in
series
SCOTTSCDALE
– “Elizabeth,” the second film of The
Foothills Film Society’s 2006‑07
series, will be shown at 7 p.m., Dec.
4, at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center,
33606 N. 60th St.
At
the 1998 Academy Awards “Elizabeth”
won Best Make‑up and was nominated
for additional awards in numerous categories.
Wendy Myers, playwright and former film
educator at Scottsdale Community College,
will be the evening’s speaker. She will
introduce the film and take questions
and comments from the floor after the
screening.

Book
club to review “The Green Mile”
People
and Places Book Club will meet at 1
p.m. on Dec. 15 in the meeting room
of the Maricopa County Library District’s
North Valley Regional Library, 40410
N. Gavilan Peak Parkway in Anthem.
December’s
book is winner of the 1997 Bram Stoker
Award for Best Novel, “The Green Mile”
by Stephen King. The setting is the
small “death house” of a southern prison
in 1932 and the story is narrated by
an old man, a prison guard, looking
back on the events decades later.
