Man injured, traffic blocked in I‑17 crash
Staff reports

ANTHEM – Authorities are investigating the cause of a four‑vehicle crash Monday night that sent one man to the hospital and blocked I‑17 traffic for more than two hours.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. in the northbound lane of the interstate just south of Anthem Way.

Two of the four drivers involved refused medical treatment at the scene but one driver,

a 19‑year‑old male, was treated for head injuries, according to Capt. Dennis Tyrrell of Daisy Mountain Fire Department.

The victim had been thrown from his vehicle and was unconscious when paramedics arrived. He regained consciousness by the time he was transported by helicopter to John C. Lincoln North Mountain Trauma Center, Tyrrell said.

The collision forced the Department of Public Safety to shut down the northbound lanes for just over two hours and redirect traffic off of I‑17 at Daisy Mountain Drive, DPS reported.

The public safety department did not provide additional details as of press time.
