Verse
by verse: New church opens in Anthem

ANTHEM
– The journey of Mary and Joseph led them to a stable in Bethlehem.
The life journey of Mark and Olga Brewer has taken them to an
Anthem schoolroom. The couple’s undertaking just may be the answer
to some people’s prayers.
The
Brewers are founders of Cornerstone Community Church of Anthem,
a new, nondenominational congregation in their community. Their
first service was held on Sunday.
“We
teach the Bible verse by verse,” Mark Brewer said in an interview
with The Desert Advocate late last week.
Brewer,
47, is pastor of the new church. With approximately 50 parishioners
to start, the first official Sunday service was held at the new
Canyon Springs School, 42901 N. 45th Ave.
He
and Olga recently moved here from northern California, where he
worked as a technical support manager in Silicon Valley’s high‑tech
industry. The couple came to Anthem to establish a church and
to be closer to family members.
Brewer
said he had always been active in church leadership, even before
becoming a full‑time pastor. He describes his church’s format
as “contemporary worship in a casual atmosphere.”
Though
the parish hopes to occupy their own building within a few years,
for now Brewer’s goal is to see to it attendees are “well‑fed
with the Word of God.”
