OBITUARY
– Raymond Laterman –
June
12, 1917 – December 7, 2006
Raymond
Laterman, a long time Cave Creek resident, passed away on
Dec. 7. He was 89 years old.He is survived by his wife Zettie
and his daughter, Clarice.
Ray
was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from Syracuse
University. After graduation and a stint with the Army Air
Corps, he got his pilot’s license and went to Albany Georgia
with an aircraft company. It was here that he met Zettie
and they were married. Ray then worked for Wright Aeronautical
Corp., traveling the world.
He
left Wright Aeronautical and started work for Sperry Gyroscope
Company and Ray and Zettie moved to Long Island, New York.
While in New York, Ray was avidly involved in boats and
sailing. In 1966 he requested, and was granted, a transfer
to Phoenix, Arizona.
Ray
and Zettie moved to Cave Creek in 1968. They purchased the
original Cahava Ranch which was homesteaded by Katie and
Ted Jones. Ray and Zettie rode horses with Ray involved
in competitive endurance rides. They fished, camped, and
in general enjoyed all that Arizona has to offer. Ray retired
after 34 years with Sperry and became active in local Cave
Creek government and in the Desert Foothills Library (serving
on the board). No services will be held.
