Cactus Shadows girls soccer continues tournament play
by Jason Stone

CAVE CREEK – Cactus Shadows won one of three matches at last week's Huskies/Eiger Tournament of Champions to enter the week with a 2‑3 overall record.

The Falcons walloped Cactus 8‑0 Dec. 5 in the second of three tournament games, but losses to Xavier and Pinnacle in the other games kept Cactus Shadows from advancing to the semifinals.

Cactus Shadows has three games this week prior to next week's Greenway Tournament, which leads into the winter break. On tap this week for the Coyotes are Agua Fria (Dec. 11), Pinnacle (Dec. 12) and Independence (Dec. 14).

O'Connor hosting 2nd Eagle Classic

NORTH VALLEY – Sandra Day O'Connor enters this week's Lady Eagle Soccer Classic hoping to pick up its first win of the year. The Eagles had 10 days off between the last match, a tough 1‑0 loss to Thunderbird Dec. 1, and the beginning of its own four‑day tournament.

O'Connor (0‑3) will play Casa Grande, Independence and Willow Canyon in round‑robin games Dec. 11‑13. Bracket games and the finals are set for Dec. 14 and 15, respectively. All matches are at O'Connor.

The tournament isn't the Eagles' final competition of the semester either. O'Connor also faces road games at Red Mountain (Dec. 19) and at Peoria (Dec. 20) prior to the winter break.

Boulder Creek ready to open region play

ANTHEM – Boulder Creek begins Northwest Region games Dec. 15 when Trevor Browne makes the trip north. It will be one of two final matches of the fall semester for the Jaguars prior to winter break.

The Jaguars (0‑5‑1) played in the Deer Valley tournament last week and finished 0‑3‑1. Boulder Creek lost to Bradshaw Mountain and Agua Fria in pool play, but was able to eke out a 1‑1 tie against Peoria Dec. 7. The Jags then lost to host Deer Valley 2‑0 in bracket games Dec. 8.

Bulldogs battle long layoffs

NORTH VALLEY – With no regular‑season tournaments on its schedule, Goldwater had to wait nearly two weeks between games. The Bulldogs (0‑2) last played Dec. 1 against North, but won't play again until Dec. 13 when it hosts St. Mary's. After that game, it will be almost a month before they play again on Jan. 9 against Boulder Creek.
