Deer Valley schools announce holiday recess

All schools in the Deer Valley Unified School District will be closed from Dec. 20 through Jan. 2 for the winter break. Classes resume on Jan. 3.

The District Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 31 to receive last minute tax credit contributions.

Students entertain classmates to benefit injured boy

CAVE CREEK – The Cactus Shadows High School Drama Club will be entertaining the community Dec. 15 to raise money for a Sonoran Trails Middle School student who was injured in an accident near campus in October.

The club will be displaying goofy talents such as gargling songs, nostril dancing, making balloon animals, juggling and singing to raise money for Jeffry Lovell. The students will wear a sign asking students to pick how they want to be entertained.

Those who want to make a separate donation for Lovell's medical bills can deposit money in the "Jeffry Lovell Benefit Fund" at any Wells Fargo bank branch or send a check to the CSHS Drama Club.

Barro's Pizza at Tatum and Dynamite is also donating 10 percent of all its sales from 6‑9 p.m. on Dec. 13 to Lovell's fund.
