Diamond Canyon students participate in aerospace competition

Diamond Canyon fifth graders, led by Michele Jones, participated in the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge competition, according to a news release from the Deer Valley Unified School District.

The competition, now in its 8th year, invites students to design and build a model international space station to sustain a crew of 100 for two years. Some of the topics researched included satellite development and maintenance, provisions for gravity, shielding, and living conditions. More than 600 fifth through eighth graders across Arizona competed last week in the Aerospace Challenge preliminary competitions at Arizona State University West.

The Diamond Canyon team known as the "Hoopsters" earned Honorable Mention. Team members were Alex Dalessio, Samantha Dalessio, Baylee Nichols, Isabella Haelen, and Andi Leusler.
