Accountability
is a core value
Accountability
is one of the seven core values of the Deer
Valley Unified School District.
As
we look back upon 2006, we can see that accountability
has set the standard that creates success.
When
many of us think of accountability, it is
finances that come to mind. With a Maintenance
and Operations Budget of $172 million dollars,
accountability in finances is indeed a top
priority. The Governing Board is accountable
for sound financial policies and a balanced
budget that reflect the desires of the community.
Our recent “Special Report to the Community‑Bond
Project Management” is one of the ways we
answer to you.
Another
way that our school district holds itself
accountable is through the Strategic Plan.
Under the leadership of our Super‑ intendent,
Dr. Virginia McElyea, this three‑year
blueprint was developed in cooperation with
parents, business partners and community members.
Naturally,
the main priority of the school district is
student achievement. Arizona’s Instrument
to Measure Standards gives us results to compare
our students to their peers across the state.
Our students consistently exceed the state
average, show steady improvement and even
accomplish some of the top scores statewide.
In 2006, all of our eligible seniors passed
the test.
Accountability
is also measured by the AZ LEARNS Achievement
Profiles. In 2006, the number of our schools
labeled Excelling increased as we evaluate
data and focus on best practices.
Deer
Valley’s core value of accountability has
produced tangible results in continuous improvement
across all areas of our district. And over
the past year, it is a response that has garnered
our staff and students numerous local, state
and national awards.
As
DVUSD continues to build upon the success
of 2006, it remains committed to the core
value of accountability. Consider a New Year’s
resolution of involvement with the students
and schools of your community. We will be
developing a new Strategic Plan and welcome
your time and participation in its development
or in any other area your interest may lie.
Together, as partners in education, we are
accountable for the future of our children.

Agosta, Board President
